Contain a desire and it cannot rule you.
You can contain anything inside by not identifying with it or touching it.
When you contain something inside, whether a sensation, feeling, or thought, then it is just what it is without any power or control over you.
When you learn to detach from temptations and foolish impulses, then you can contain them until they pass of their own accord.
When you contain something, then you are just a witness to it and you do not try to argue, change, compare, complain, condemn, control, deny, glorify, judge, or undo it.
